Make Japan Surrender
Japan’s refusal to surrender made President Harry S. Truman drop the atomic bomb. The allies demanded for an immediate unconditional surrender from Japan. The demand stated that refusal would end in total destruction, without mentioning the atomic bombs. Japanese military rejected the demand. Japan was already defeated but they still refused to surrender, “America was winning the war against Japan, but the Japanese were fighting valiantly” (Hiroshima). World War II in Europe already ended, and Germany and Italy had already surrendered in May of 1945. The only other way to end the war with Japan was to invade them, which would have ended in thousands of more casualties. On August 6, 1945, Enola Gay, a B-29 bomber, dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city, Hiroshima. Three days later, on August 9, another bomb was dropped on another Japanese city named Nagasaki. Soon after the second atomic bomb, Japan surrendered on August 14 of 1945. The two atomic bombs eventually got Japan to surrender._
