The Soviet Union
The Soviet was a considerable factor for Truman to drop the atomic bombs on Japan. The dictator of the Soviet Union was Joseph Stalin. Even though, Harry Truman regarded the Soviet Union as an important ally during the fight against Germany, he was wary of their postwar plans. The two detrimental bombs were dropped and demonstrated a new lethal weapon of mass destruction to the Soviets and to the world, “Pandora’s box was now open” (Decision). Truman wanted to impress the Soviets with their powerful new weapon. They showed the Soviet Union the vehement military strength America had to offer. Using the atomic bombs would also remarkably increase the United States worldly political power. The USSR also had a significant amount of military control over most of Eastern Europe. After the U.S. dropped the bomb the Soviet Union did not demand joint occupation of Japan. The Soviets persuaded Truman into dropping the bomb even more.
